In this example he has designed and build an antenna tuner for his 20/40m end-fed half-wave antenna, that can be interfaced for control by and used with his Icom IC7000 transceiver.
I have been collecting parts to make an arduino based tuner also. What I have been thinking about lately is using an AD8302 phase-mag detector similar to what you did in the VNArduino but in this case the arduino could calculate the values needed for a conjugate match for the antenna and then switch in the relays to deliver this value in one step.
This circuit uses an Arduino Uno or Nano to send a CI-V command to an Icom radio to ask for signal information, read the answer, convert it and display it on an analog output, where you can connect an analog (Arsonval) S-meter. It is powered by the Antenna Tuner port on the Icom radio.

This is an Arduino based rotator interface that emulates the Yaesu GS-232A or GS-232B interface, and the Easycom protocol. It allows the rotator to be interfaced to Ham Radio Deluxe or other programs that support the Yaesu rotator command set.
The green part is the RF section, which is electrically isolated from the control section. The control section is connected to the Arduino board, pins are given. The SWR meter is not in the circuit, but should be placed between the tuner and the transmitter (TX). The DC output of the SWR-meter is connected to analog input 0 of the Arduino.
The antenna I'm planning on using this on is a 160m loop. I'm able to tune all the major bands on it with my 450's LDG tuner. Course this wouldn't help for a linear. I know a mag loop antenna can be tuned with a cap alone. Perhaps I could leverage that for this antenna since it's more about adding capacitance to tune for lower bands.
